Mister Rogers’ Peanut Butter Sandwich
In 1993, my grandmother captured this recipe from episode 1612 of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, in which Mr. McFeely makes his “McFeely Family Snack” to share with Mister Rogers. This delicious peanut butter and apple butter spread is super versatile. In the show, they put it over rice cakes, but we were more of a sandwich family.
This quick and easy snack is a sweet treat - an elevated but rustic (and super nostalgic) take on the humble peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Your little ones will love this wholesome after school snack, and so will you.

Mister Rogers’ Peanut Butter Sandwich | Quick & Easy Snack for Kids
Ingredients
Directions
- In an airtight container, combine the dry milk, apple butter, and peanut butter until thoroughly mixed together. The milk powder should be fully incorporated so you don't have any dry lumps.
- Choose your way to enjoy! Spread an even layer (about 2 tbsp.) between two slices of your favorite bread, on crackers, or over a rice cake. I won't judge you if you eat it right out of the container with a spoon!
- Store in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
Notes
Dry milk and apple butter can be tough to find these days. Usually, we get these ingredients online or at our local Sprouts market. But if you're a canner like me, you can make your own apple butter! Check out my tutorial here on YouTube to learn how.
If you or your little one is allergic to nuts, substitute an alternative like Sun Butter for the peanut butter.
